FAQ

Is there a special programme for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people?

Page last updated 30 May 2022

Yes. The National Immunisation Program (NIP) includes additional vaccination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults.

In addition to the other routine vaccinations offered throughout life, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over are eligible for a free annual influenza vaccine. Pneumococcal vaccination is also recommended and funded for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are aged 50 years and above.  You should speak with your healthcare professional about which vaccinations you may be eligible for.
